As a former goldsmith student at ALS, 34-year-old Maryam had actually imagined a bright future. However, recent social changes and the dramatic decline in career prospects for women have shattered this dream.
Originally from Kamari, Maryam now lives with her husband and six children in a rented house in the village of Qala-e-Ahmadkhan near the Hazrat Bilal mosque. All the children are minors, three attend elementary school. Unfortunately, one of the children is disabled from birth and has limited mobility, so he has to spend most of the day in bed.
Maryam’s husband is illiterate and is currently being trained as a mechanic, which means a low wage. Maryam, who is also illiterate, takes care of the household and the six children and is therefore unable to contribute financially to the joint income.
We are urgently looking for sponsors for the family who can imagine making everyday life easier for this family with a small monthly contribution.
