Two weeks ago, Samira, who lives alone with her four children, also became the happy owner of 60 young and healthy laying hens. As her property is ideal for keeping chickens, she received three times the usual number of hens. A starter pack with feed and water troughs and 60 kg of feed was also included.
Samira is intended to serve as a role model for the other village women and show that economic independence for women can be possible despite the political house arrest. Samira can use the eggs for her own family or sell them at the market. She can raise and sell more chickens. For a woman who is otherwise excluded from social life, this is a huge step back towards a self-determined life.
