The severe earthquake in Kunar on August 31, 2025 left a region in ruins: over 1,400 people lost their lives, more than 3,000 were injured, and around 5,400 houses collapsed.
We were on site with several aid transports and were able to provide immediate financial assistance to those affected—for building materials, reconstruction, and urgently needed heating fuel for the coming winter.
As reported by numerous media outlets, women in particular received little support. Women were not rescued from the rubble if no male relative was present. Female doctors were not allowed into the region, which meant that many seriously injured women did not survive.
Many women and children survived the disaster, but are now widows and orphans without any means of support. They do not know how to cope with everyday life or even how to get through the next week.
