Sponsorships are an important pillar of our current aid on site. Dedicated sponsors from Germany support a needy Afghan family with a monthly contribution of their choice. We pay out the money to the needy families every three months. The entire amount donated is paid out – there are no administrative costs. Normally, the needy families come to the ALS main building in Kabul, where the money is distributed to the respective families in an informal setting.

Families can use the money to cover the costs of their home, food, education, and medical care.

Like Farkundheh, for example, who is able to finance her medical training from part of the monthly contribution. Her older sister Shukrana studied law and legal studies before 2021 and was unfortunately never able to work in this field. Giving up is out of the question for her and so she was at least able to invest some of the money in an English course. The third of the sisters, Adiyeh, is attending a sewing course. The family was able to buy a sewing machine for her. The investment pays off when the family can earn a little money with sewn items of clothing, curtains etc.

Shila’s husband died some time ago, leaving her to look after her four daughters and one son on her own. The regular funds ensure that all the children can attend school. At 6 years old, Susan is still a little too young, but she too will start school soon. The Afghan winters are harsh and cold. The money enabled Shila to buy a boiler and firewood. When her husband died, her son Omar was also ill. Thanks to the financial help, he was able to make a full recovery with the right treatment in hospital.
